Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in Tigray, 2000-2022.

Maternal Mortality had a gradually decreasing trend from 2000 to 2020 (before the war). In 2000, it was 871 per 100,000 live births. By 2005 and 2011, it was estimated to be around the 670s. According to the 2016 EDHS report, the MMR was 412. In 2020, according to the Tigray Central Statistical Agency, the MMR in Tigray was 186 per 100,000 live births. However, after the war broke out on November 4, 2020, the mortality rate dramatically increased to 835 per 100,000 live births.
