The 2017 EC DHIS2 data from Tigray illustrate important trends in hypertension diagnosis and care linkage. The proportion of newly diagnosed HTN cases, calculated by dividing the number of individuals identified with elevated blood pressure by the total screened and expressed as a percentage, consistently ranged between 5.0% and 8.5% for most months, with a dip in Sene (2.6%), and an annual average of 7.1%. Enrollment to care—measured as the percentage of newly diagnosed cases enrolled in hypertension management programs—varied more widely, peaking dramatically in Sene (107.7%) and falling as low as 22.9% in Megabit, with a yearly average of 39.0%. This discrepancy suggests possible delays, cumulative reporting effects, or inconsistencies in referral tracking. For policymakers, the data highlights a pressing need to align diagnostic efforts with robust enrollment pathways, address documentation anomalies, and reinforce clinical follow-up systems to ensure timely management of cardiovascular risks.
