Trends in Prevalence of Diarrhea Among Under-Five Children in Tigray

The prevalence of diarrhea among children in Tigray showed a fluctuating trend between 2000 and 2024. From 2000 to 2016, it remained relatively stable, ranging between 12.5% and 17.2% according to EDHS data. A sharp increase was observed in 2019, reaching 19.8%, and a dramatic spike occurred in 2021, with prevalence rising to 51.7% as reported by Tsadik et al. (2023), likely reflecting the impact of conflict and disruption in basic services. However, by 2024, the prevalence had significantly declined to 14.2% (Tsadik et al., 2026), indicating a potential recovery in public health efforts and access to clean water and sanitation services.
