Under 5 children Acute malnutrition proportion Monthly trend

The DHIS2 data from Tigray for 2017 EC illustrates distinct trends in moderate and severe acute malnutrition (MAM and SAM) among children. The proportions were calculated by dividing the total screened under 5 children by the positivity count for MAM and SAM. MAM proportion remained consistently high across most months, peaking in Tir (16.42%) and showing a gradual decline thereafter, while SAM proportions were notably lower overall, fluctuating between 1.25% in Tikemet and 0.73% in Miazia, before sharply dipping in Sene (0.01%), which likely reflects incomplete reporting. The average values across the year were 13.08% for MAM and 0.86% for SAM, suggesting a persistent burden of moderate malnutrition with relatively stable, though critical, levels of severe cases. These findings indicate the need for sustained nutrition interventions, with strategic planning focused on months of elevated vulnerability and close monitoring of reporting consistency.
