The HIV positivity rates from Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) and Provider-Initiated Testing and Counseling (PITC) in Tigray during 2017 EC offer a comparative view of case detection across testing approaches. These indicators were calculated by dividing the number of individuals who tested positive for HIV by the total number of individuals tested in each modality per month, then multiplying by 100 to express the result as a percentage. VCT positivity rates were generally higher, ranging from 0.96% in Hidar to 1.71% in Genbot, with an annual average of 1.21%, suggesting stronger yield among those voluntarily seeking services. PITC rates remained below 1% throughout, peaking in Tir (1.12%), and averaging 0.50% annually, highlighting the effectiveness of routine provider-initiated testing in identifying hidden cases, albeit at lower proportions. These patterns emphasize the complementary role of both strategies in HIV surveillance and reinforce the need for consistent monthly reporting and balanced investment in voluntary and routine testing pathways.
